Intetics Builds a Cross-Platform Mobile Application For a Wound Measurement

Objective

Create a mobile smartphone and tablet application to help physicians efficiently document and precisely measure acute and chronic wounds, and observe wound dynamics over time directly at the point of care.

Challenge

The client approached Intetic with the request to develop an application for physicians to help them determine the type of wounds based on the various options. Having extensive medical knowledge, the client though lacked the software development skills. The Intetics team was tapped for the considerable experience in healthcare software and applications’ development.

The client needed the application to automatically determine the wound types and document the measurements to compare them with the previously measured values.

Solution

Having analyzed the UI, UX requirements and technical specifications, the Intetics team suggested using Flutter –  Google’s mobile UI framework to develop a cross-platform application that would ensure high-quality native experiences.

To teach the application automatically detect the type of wounds basing on such options such as wound boundaries, unclear edges, different colors and types of skin, the Intetics team used a vision library for teaching the app algorithm. The developed algorithm was trained to detect objects in different lighting conditions and for different skin types. The automatically detected objects may later be modified by the app’s user with a simple touch interface.

The application was released for Android and IOs smartphone and tablets.

Results

The Intetics team developed the application within the planned timeframe which perfectly matched the client’s marketing strategy. The team developed the app without additional development and maintenance expenses by sharing the same code base for different platforms, using ready components and libraries.

With the application, medical professionals are now able to securely document treatment relevant photos via mobile devices. The app helps to calculate the wound length, width, and area directly from images. Image series is available in a chronological sequence to analyze the treatment dynamics.

The application improves the quality of the clinical documentation and reduces the number of human errors, which enables better treatment of patients.
