For an oil pipeline operator, pipeline monitoring accounts for a significant portion of their operations costs. Their pipeline network stretches for hundreds of kilometers through hard-to-reach areas that are often inaccessible to terrestrial vehicles. For a long time, the only available way to monitor the pipelines was with foot patrols and helicopters. These monitoring processes, however, were not comprehensive enough, as many sections of the pipeline were still located in swampy and wooded areas and could not be inspected.
Irregular monitoring meant that accidents were frequent on the line, causing big environmental and economic damage. The oil transport company was looking for a partner who could help them improve their monitoring process using the latest technology.
Power lines require regular maintenance to ensure all structural elements are supported. This requires systematic servicing of power line components such as transmission lines and tangent towers among other things. These inspections include complex procedures designed to prevent premature degradation and destruction of power line parts. Furthermore, the company must ensure quality and timeliness of inspections to guarantee power line safety during servicing. To assess the condition of power lines and decide which lines need maintenance, the client chose to conduct a LiDAR survey using UAV. This was the quickest and cheapest option, compared to conducting a similar airborne LiDAR survey. The one drawback of this approach is that the UAV with LiDAR on board provides raw data. Therefore it requires specific, expensive software to process, highly qualified specialists and expertise in cloud of point analysis, 3D analysis, and GIS. Not having such expertise in-house, the energy company was looking for GIS specialists with LiDAR data analysis expertise to successfully use their survey data.
Land use agency decided to use drone-captured images to update their existing cadastral maps, because it is a cheap, precise and real-time data capture method. The map update was necessary for the agency to accurately define lot boundaries and manage land resources effectively. The agency, however, did not have the geo-expertise to process captured images or build topographical plans based on the derived data. They needed a partner who would be able to analyze the UAV images, organize and process data, and map the results. The task was further complicated by the fact that the data was captured by different types and models of UAVs and cameras, creating a myriad of data formats. The data captured was also frequently in violation of traditional survey techniques, requiring special attention.

It is crucial for them to know of any site issues to successfully distribute their resources and ensure well developed, timely results.
A regional cemetery operator in France decided to implement GIS-enabled CMS and get rid of outdated paper maps. GIS-based applications allow most cemetery record operations to be performed by using a displayed map. Functions such as searching, selling and interment record keeping are all done through the map interface. The agency wanted to use these GIS technologies to simplify the cemetery monitoring process and decided to find a partner capable of creating an appropriate cartographic base for such a system.
Increasingly more mapping and geographical tasks can be solved with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), for example industrial survey and inspection, 3D modeling and land use management. While the use of UAVs significantly improves efficiency, the ever-increasing amount of collected data requires specialized infrastructure for data storage and maintenance.
